Daniel's Law is under attack and we need you to help us save it! New Jersey legislators just introduced S4884, the so-called "Protect Daniel's Law Act". This bill is a Trojan horse: instead of protecting the law, it would actually destroy it and put us and our families in danger. Specifically, the bill:
  • Takes away an individual's right to file a lawsuit if their nondisclosure requests are ignored.
  • Gives a data broker 75 business days to comply with your request, up from the current 10 days.
  • Replaces the mandatory $1,000 penalty per violation with a fine of less than $3 per day.
If this bill passes, we will see our home addresses, phone numbers, and other sensitive personal information republished across the Internet and we'll be powerless to stop it. The special interests are trying to take advantage of New Jersey's lame-duck legislative session to cram this poison pill legislation through before we have enough time to act. We must fight for our rights, or lose them. Now is the time.
